South Korea 's largest multiplex cinema chain, CGV, with its headquarters inSeoul . It is a subsidiary ofCJ Group and was established in 1996 as a joint venture formed by CJ Corporation(Korea),Golden Harvest (Hong Kong ), andVillage Roadshow (Australia ). CGV stands for CJ Golden Village; however, now only the 'C' remains true to nature, as Golden Harvest and Village Roadshow have pulled out of the group.History
CGV opened its first multiplex cinema in Korea in April 1998. Since the opening of its first cinema in eastern
Seoul , CGV has expanded and currently operates on 54 sites and as of September 2007 is scheduled to have over 450 screens nationwide. CGV opened its first overseas branch inShanghai ,China in late 2006 and is scheduled to open its firstNorth America n branch inLos Angeles ,California in early 2008. The company went public in December 2004 and is currently valued at US$400 million. CGV now has slightly under 30% of the market share inSouth Korea .References
