The Sweet Feeling

The Sweet Feeling was a late 60's Belgian rock band, whose members included, Don Attewell vocals & guitar the only English member of the band & 3 Belgian musicians Dany "Longlegs", lead guitar, John Valcke, bass guitar & Jacky "Hitchin", drums.

Don Attewell having just left his long term English band "The Collection" along with organist John Tout, who later became the Keyboard player with "Renaisance", worked for some time as a freelance session guitarist & "stand-in musician" recording & playing with many English bands and artists of the time. By chance, at the same time as being asked to audition by John Tout as vocalist for the named band "Rupert People", Don had already agreed to travel to Brussels to help, short term, an English band called "The Coffee Set" who were unable to complete bookings there due to the loss of their guitarist.

Whilst in Belgium he was again approached by the manager of the top recording Belgian band "The Klan" who were about to split was asked yet again to help. Rehearsing with two of the members of "the Klan" Dany, Jacky and new bassist John Valcke, Don loved what he heard & liking the country decided stay in Belgium but the new lineup needed a new name. Don phoned England and asked "Ruperts People" if their old name could be used, they agreed & the Anglo/Belgian band "The Sweet Feeling" was formed & named.

Signed to EMI "The Sweet Feeling" became one of the top Belgium bands. In the late 60's they were regulars on European radio & TV shows. Their live stage shows were always in demand & they performed at all the big music festivals in Belgium & European Countries to great acclaim. They built up a large fan following wherever they played & their fan club "Club Sweet Feeling" received a huge amount of fan-mail.

The Sweet Feeling only stopped working as a band due to the intervention of the Belgian Military Service which Dany & Jacky were obliged to do in 1969. Just after Dany & Jacky entering the Belgium Army Don was told he could not renew his Belgian work permit & after 3 wonderful years he returned to London.

Forty years on there are now plans for "The Sweet Feeling" to reform. Don was approached by the three original Belgian members in May 2007. After a tearfull reunion in Brussels it was agreed that he started to write new material to record & plans for a live show featuring some old & new Sweet Feeling songs may happen.

New songs have been written by Don and it is hoped that recording will start soon. Live dates are proving to be difficult due to Don still living in England but once recordings have been made some live shows could be arranged later this year.
