Fondazione Rinascimento Digitale

Fondazione “Rinascimento Digitale – Nuove Tecnologie per i Beni Culturali” (Digital Renaissance Foundation – New Technologies for Cultural Heritage) is a non-profit organisation formed at the end of 2004 by Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze. The mission of the foundation is precisely to "“stimulate and valorise the use of the new ICT technologies, comply with higt quality open standards for cultural heritage applications, undertaking initiatives, also in collaboration with other institutions, in research, documentation, promotion, training, dissemination and preservation of digital memories”."

The foundation proposes to work towards defining standards, methods and tools capable of preserving digital memories in time, guaranteeing the adequate conservation of the original storage supports and digital technologies. A series of actions will also be undertaken to enable defining and applying new architectures of knowledge by utilising digital technologies and integrating different media.

In order to reach its objectives, the foundation must succeed in becoming a point of reference to:
*elaborate efficient preservation strategies for digital memories
*invent exemplary applications capable of representing the state of the art in the sector
*promote collaboration amongst the principle research centres of excellence in Italy
*conduct educational activities to promote the diffusion of the most efficient methods and technologiesThe foundation proposes to form partnerships with centres of excellence that share its purposes, on the local, national and international level, co-financing events, courses, analyses, studies and research projects.
