Pipeline USA

Pipeline USA

Pipeline USA is a defunct Internet service provider from the mid to late 1990s. Their claim to fame was their own proprietary software that was similar in use to AOL (at the time), CompuServe, and Prodigy. Pipeline USA was eventually purchased by Mindspring, which was itself later purchased by Earthlink.

An advertisement of Pipeline USA during its heyday was:

Blockquote|Pipeline USA offers full Internet access in one easy-to-use software package. With the all-you-can-eat Internet buffet at $19.95 per month, Pipeline USA offers one of the most cost-effective plans discussed here. To use Pipeline USA, just pop in the setup diskette and access the Internet through an interface similar to America Online's. Owned by PSINet, Pipeline USA has expanded its nationwide access numbers and now offers local-access numbers in more than 140 U.S. cities, as well as a handful of cities in Canada, Japan, and England. Its headquarters are in Herndon, Vir.

Pipeline USA also offers personalized Web pages for its customers, and the service is designed to create a comfortable community for novices. In keeping with that theme, Pipeline USA recently announced the launch of its Virtual Neighborhoods program in select cities, which will provide content such as Web sites for ordering food for delivery.
