Iklena

Iklaina or Iklena ( _el. Ίκλαινα) is a historic village in the province of Pylia, prefecture of Messenia, Greece. Approximately 14 km to the northeast of the modern town of Pylos and 2 km NE of GR-9 (Pyrgos - Kyparissia - Pylos - Methoni). Important archaeological remains of the Late Bronze Age (ca. 1600-1100 BC) period have been brought to light through excavations and surface survey by the Archaeological Society and the University of Missouri–St. Louis under the direction of Professor Michael Cosmopoulos. Other periods represented are the Late Classical and the Byzantine.

Historical population

Iklaina has a small school, which is not used anymore, a church, and a square ("plateia").

Iklaina is surrounded by mountains with a rocky terrain, bushes and some forests and groves.
