After exercising his craft in New York theatre in the late sixties and early seventies, Railsback made his film debut in "The Visitors", directed by
Elia Kazan . Although usually a supporting actor, he is known for starring asCharles Manson in the 1976 televisionmini-series "Helter Skelter" as well as the lead role in "The Stunt Man " oppositePeter O'Toole . Other starring roles include the astronaut in Tobe Hooper's "Lifeforce" and playingserial killer Ed Gein in the film "In the Light of the Moon ", for which he was also executive producer.
