Kingfishers Cricket Club

The Kingfishers Cricket Club, or KCC is an amateur cricket club in Arizona. It was formed in the early 1990s and has played competitively around Arizona since then.

The KCC's team members are mostly expatriates of cricket-playing nations such as India, Pakistan, and the West Indies. The KCC has been in the top of the Arizona Cricket Association for the following seasons:

#ACA League A division Champions in 2004-2005 Season
#ACA League A division Runner ups in 2005-2006 Season
#ACA League B division Runner ups in 2006-2007 Season

The club has grown over time and it now has two teams known as KCC-A and KCC-B. The idea of having a B team inside the club was developed during the Arizona summer tournament of 2006 with the purpose of grooming players to play for A team in the future. In addition to serving the main purpose, the B team has done well by winning the B division championship in 2006-2007 season and reaching the semi-finals in the Arizaona day night summer tournament of 2007. Normally a new player first plays for B team and based on his performance he is moved to A team in the next season.

Summer Tournament 2007: KCC won the summer championship for the first time in 6 years after this championship has been introduced under the captaincy of Gopi Boenipally. KCC-A beat arch rivals Cavaliers in the semis by just 2 runs and demolished the unbeaten wild cats in the finals. Finals match was recorded in video and the links could be found at the end of this page. Fact|date=November 2007

Regular Season 2007-2008"Italic text": Kingfishers Cricket club pitched in two teams in the regular season, KCC-A team being led by Karan Wittke and KCC-B team being led by Anand Kumar. After the office elections, the office bearers decided to keep both the teams balanced as per the opinion of many of the cricket team members at that point of time. The club in total had 36 registered players at the start of the season. However, KCC-A ended up at number 4 and KCC-B ended up at number 5 in the league much to the dislikes of a club which boasted of having 30+ talented cricket players from a diverse background. Just before the end of the season, the office bearers once again had a grueling meeting wherein they decided to have a stronger and balanced team for the playoffs immediately after the regular season. A voting among the team members in an open meeting also confirmed similar interest from the players. Soon, two teams were divided based on performance during the regular season just concluded and keeping the balance of Team A in mind largely. Rest of the players moved to B team with the hope that those who could not get chances in the regular season might get better chances playing for the B team.

Playoffs: 2008"Italic text": Anand Kumar was appointed as the captain of KCC-A and Mahesh nair was appointed as captain to lead the KCC-B team. At the time of writing, KCC-A had won its first two games of the playoffs against Spartans and Valley Eagles respectively quite comprehensively and is currently sitting as number one in the table. KCC-B won one against Spartans while losing a close one to Scottsdale Cricket Club.
