Hyrum Manwaring

Hyrum Manwaring

Hyrum Manwaring was the president of Ricks College (now Brigham Young University–Idaho) from 1930 to 1944.

At one point, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints tried to give the school to the state of Idaho, but the state refused it. The church decided to keep it open, but this was only achieved through major efforts on the part of Manwaring in increasing both enrollment and donations. During Manwaring's administration the school was accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. The student center at Brigham Young University–Idaho today is named after Manwaring.

Prior to being president of Ricks College, Manwaring was a faculty member there. He first visited the campus to give the Pioneer Day oration on July 24, 1914, and began service as a regular faculty member that fall.
