Hyrum Manwaring was the president of Ricks College (now
Brigham Young University–Idaho ) from 1930 to 1944.At one point,
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints tried to give the school to the state ofIdaho , but the state refused it. The church decided to keep it open, but this was only achieved through major efforts on the part of Manwaring in increasing both enrollment and donations. During Manwaring's administration the school was accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. Prior to being president of Ricks College, Manwaring was a faculty member there. He first visited the campus to give the
Pioneer Day oration onJuly 24 ,1914 , and began service as a regular faculty member that fall.References
