Sandvollan

Sandvollan

Sandvollan is a rural settlement in Inderøy, Norway on the north part of Inderøy, bordering to Steinkjer and Borgenfjord in the east, Kjerknesvågen on the west and Trondheimsfjord on the north. It was between 1907 and 1962 a separate municipality. There are two villages in Sandvollan, Gangstad and Småland. At Gangstad there is a grocery store, and between the two villages is Skjelvågen, a harbour that used to be a stop on the steam ship routes. Sandvollan is mostly an agriarian settlement, though it also functions as a suburb for Steinkjer, located 10 km away.

There are two churches in Sandvollan; Hustad Church from the 1100s and Heggstad Church from 1887. The older church was built for the chieftan of Hustad, Bård Standale, who was sheriff for Eystein Haraldsson around 1150. A new church was built because the old one became too small.
