Cacosterninae
Petropedetidae
(but see text)Petropedetinae are a
subfamily offrog s. They are placed in the true frog family (Ranidae ) by many authors. But this is quite disputed and at least part of this group is often treated as a distinct family Petropedetidae, in which caste the Cacosterninae are usually separated as a subfamily or even another good family Cacosternidae [Frost (2006)] . These frogs are essentially limited tosub-Saharan Africa , with the highest diversity - and as it seems theirevolution ary origin - in the very south of the continent.This group of frogs is made up from the following genera, about half of which is
monotypic :
* "Anhydrophryne " – Hogsback Frog
* "Arthroleptella " – moss frogs
* "Arthroleptides " – African torrent frogs
* "Cacosternum " – cacos
* "Dimorphognathus "
* "Ericabatrachus "
* "Microbatrachella " – Micro Frog
* "Natalobatrachus "
* "Nothophryne "
* "Petropedetes "
* "Phrynobatrachus " – dwarf puddle frogs or African puddle frogs
* "Phrynodon "
* "Poyntonia "Footnotes
