Valery Arshba was the first Vice President of the Republic of Abkhazia, a de facto independent republic of the Republic of Georgia. He held that office from 1994 until 2005. Arshba was a candidate for the October 2004 Abkhazian presidential election, but withdrew in the last minute due to pressure from his family.cite journal
