Attorney Claire Kubik, who lives an idyllic life with her husband Tom, has her life shattered after a failed robbery attempt at their home. They are accosted by the
FBI , and to Claire's shock, they arrest her husband. They charge him with the murder of Salvadoran civilians under his previous identity of Ronald Chapman. Chapman was a covert military operative serving in the US Marines and had been on the run for twelve years.Tom admits his involvement in an operation that resulted in the loss of civilians, for which he was blamed; however, he maintains that he is innocent, and he was made a scapegoat as only he could identify the men who did carry out the killings.
Claire is prepared to defend her husband in a military court, but she soon realizes that she is in over her head and hires Charlie Grimes, an embittered former military attorney, who has a grudge against the military brass. While making their case, they begin to uncover a massive cover-up, perpetrated by one of the highest ranking officers. Key eyewitnesses have conveniently died, and as the scandal is revealed, Claire's career and even her life are put in jeopardy.
