Biography

The band was started in a village on the west coast called St. Joseph. The band was formed by Anthony "Curvin" Serrant, guitar Anthony "Tepam" George, bass Elon "Bollo" Rodniy drums and keyboard player McDonald "Mckie" Prosper. Jeff Joseph and Georges "Soul" Thomas were added soon after. They were students of the Dominica Grammar School and St Mary's Academy, hence the name Grammacks.

Grammacks along with Exile One were the originators of 1970s phenomenon, Cadence-lypso music. An up-tempo form of calypso sang mostly in Antillean Creole and French. This later inspired Zouk music popularized by Kassav in the 1980s.

Grammacks rose to prominence in the 1970s to the early 1980s with a Super Bowl performance to their credit. Creative differences and financial mismanagement caused the band to break up with many members pursuing individual solo projects. Jeff Joseph later formed Volt Face and Grammacks New Generation. They headlined the first ever World Creole Music Festival in Dominica. Grammacks Original is now back after many years with a new CD called Get Up which was recorded in 2009 in Miami. The band is working on new music.
