St. Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) is a secular non-profit, private institution of higher learning founded by the Catholic Bishops of Tanzania in 1998, accredited in 2002. SAUT is committed to being a center of excellence through education, research and community service and currently has 2,649 students with an anticipated 3,500 students for the 2007/08 academic year. Located in East Africa, SAUT extends over 600 acres in the Nyegezi-Malimbe area, 10km south of Mwanza on the shores of Lake Victoria. The University is divided into two campuses. The main campus houses the administration buildings and the Faculty of Business Administration. The Malimbe campus, located one km away, is home to the Faculty of Humanities and Mass Communication. SAUT is the only Catholic, private university in Tanzania.

Fostering an ethical and service-oriented approach in its academic and professional training, SAUT fulfills its goals by preparing persons well equipped to contribute to the ideals of social, economic and political development.

Vision

When the Catholic Bishops of Tanzania decided to extend the Church’s services to the provision of higher education, they envisioned a training that would not only impart academic and professional skills but also that would inculcate values of civic and social learning and ethics such as acquisition of national identity, cultural norms, political growth and responsible citizenship.
