- Plura River
Plura is a river in Rana municipality, county of
Nordland ,Norway . The river has its outlet inKallvatnet , flows through the valley ofPlurdalen and ends up as a tributary toRanelva 10 km north ofMo i Rana .The name is connected with the Norwegian verb «prula» − meaning «boiling» and «seething».
Plura flows both over and beneath the ground, and has the longest subterranean flow in
Norway (3,8 km). The river is rich onsalmon ,trout andarctic char .Until
1964 , Plura was a large river, washinglimestone out of the mountain, creating severalcave s downwards the valley ofPlurdalen . Through the cavePluragrotta , 20,000cubic metre of water passed each minute. Thedam ofKallvatnet made Plura almost dry, and the water in the cave ofPluragrotta became standing still like in a «water seal».Photo gallery
