input = JoystickBomb Squad was a single-player game released by
Mattel for theirIntellivision console in1982 . The game was one of five released for the console that required theIntellivoice module. (The other four were B-17 Bomber,Space Spartans , , and World Series Major League Baseball.)Gameplay
The object of the game is to defuse a bomb within a set period of time. The player first chooses the number of digits in the code used to defuse the bomb, and the difficulty level (on a 1-3 scale; higher difficulty levels mean that more steps most be taken to defuse the bomb, and less time is given, and more digits means the bomb will take longer to defuse). There are 4 different tools that the player has access to: wire cutters, clamps, a
soldering iron , andliquid nitrogen (for freezing various parts of the bomb circuitry that catch on fire). (Note that this freezing technique was employed to great success in the movieLethal Weapon 2 .) Proper manipulations of bomb circuitry would prevent an explosion, while any missteps along the way would accelerate the bomb's timer (therefore reducing the amount of time remaining to defuse the bomb). Instructions by the demolition expert are given verbally (via the voice module) to the player detailing which parts of the bomb to manipulate and in which order. The player must then either replace the parts with wire (cut them out) or replace them with either corresponding shapes or corresponding colors. Once each part of the bomb circuitry is defused, a clue to the numeric code to defuse the bomb is revealed in green. The player may then guess the code after defusing 2 or more complete circuits successfully.A successful guess of the code would send the player to the next level, while an unsuccessful one would result in the destruction of the city and the end of the game.
