Deer of the British Isles

Deer of the British Isles

There are six species of deer living wild in the British Isles today, namely Red Deer, Roe Deer, Fallow Deer, Sika Deer, Muntjac, and the Chinese Water Deer. [ [http://www.thedeerinitiative.co.uk/html/species.htm The Deer Initiative — Species] ] Of those, Red and Roe are native and have lived in the isles throughout the Holocene, Fallow has had to be reintroduced twice, by the Romans and the Normans, after it died out during the last ice age, and the other three are escaped or released alien species.
