Pappu Yadav

Madhepura Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav is an Indian politician who was a member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). He hails from the state of Bihar in India and is a Member of Parliament (MP).

Ajit Sarkar murder case

Pappu Yadav was jailed in Beur prison, Bihar, for his alleged involvement in the murder of Surendar Prasad Yadav aka Ajit Sarkar, a trade union leader and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the Communist Party of India - Marxist party. Sarkar was murdered on June 14, 1998 by gunmen allegedly acting on the orders of Yadav.

There was a lot of media attention on his conduct in the Jail with the Indian Supreme Court involving itself to curb the alleged violation of prison rules. Pappu Yadav was accused by the CBI of making about 640 calls from his mobile phone, many of them prominent social persons. In January 2005 the Supreme Court of India ordered that phone jammers be installed in the jails to prevent inmates from using mobile phones.

Yadav was also accused of re-entering the Beur Jail after he was released on official bail and holding a party for the inmates of the jail. The main jail warden was suspended when the news of the event came to light.

Life term

In February 2008, a special CBI court convicted Pappu Yadav in the Ajit Sarkar murder case, along with former legislator Rajan Tiwari and Anil Yadav. [cite web
