- Ramsay Heatley Traquair
Ramsay Heatley Traquair (1840-1912) was a Scottish
naturalist who became a leading expert onfossil fish . His childhood was spent inScotland inRhynd ,Perthshire andEdinburgh . He studied medicine and then fish anatomy atEdinburgh University . He was Professor ofZoology at the Royal College of Science,Dublin, Ireland , and then Keeper of Natural History (1873) at theRoyal Scottish Museum , Edinburgh. He was married to the artistPhoebe Anna Moss , who he had met in Dublin. Traquair carried out work atDura Den , and his collection of fossil fish was considered one of the finest in the world at the time.
