Volkswagen 01M transmission

Volkswagen 01M transmission

The Volkswagen 01M transmission is a hydraulic 4-speed automatic transmission, developed by Volkswagen, and deployed in Cabrio, Jetta, Golf, GTI, New Beetle, and transverse engine Passat cars manufactured between 1995 and 2002. It is a torque converter-based transmission. It is fully sealed, and does not have provision for a dipstick.

It has since been replaced by an Aisin designed 6-speed automatic transmission, as well as a Direct-Shift Gearbox (DSG) based transmission in recent models of the above cars. The DSG does not have a torque converter and is more akin to a manual transmission.
