Match summary
Said to be one of the best Cup Winners' Cup Finals, West Ham began at a furious pace. John Sissons missed from only three yards. Petar Radenkovic made a brilliant save from Brian Dear, one of several saves in the first half. Both Alan Sealey and Dear just failed to get to a Sisson cross. At the other end Hans Küppers narrowly missed. Despite chances at both ends, there was no score at half-time. The second half began in the same fashion. Dear went close and Sisson hit the post. Jim Standen made fine saves from Rudi Brunnenmeier, Peter Grosser and Kuppers. The breakthrough came in the 70th minute when Ronnie Boyce threaded a pass between two defenders and Sealey cracked the ball into the net from a difficult angle. Two minutes later, West Ham scored again. A free kick to West Ham was not cleared, Bobby Moore crossed it over, Radenkovic failed to collect the ball and Sealey scored a second goal to seal the match for West Ham.
