Aviation museum

Aviation museum

An aviation museum or air museum is a museum exhibiting the history and artifacts of aviation and/or flight. In addition to actual or replica aircraft, exhibits will frequently include photographs, maps, models, dioramas, clothing, and various equipment used by aviators.

Frequently the history and artifacts of space exploration are represented as well, illustrating the close association between aeronautics and astronautics. However, many aviation museums do specialize their exhibits. Some concentrate on military or civil aviation or on aviation history of a particular era (early aviation, aircraft of World War Two, etc.).

Aviation museums including aircraft are of two types, static or flying. The static displays are generally aircraft that are not in a condition to fly or are too valuable to fly. Flying aircraft are maintained in condition to fly and are frequently flown as in Air shows or other aviation related events.
