Tahkovuori or Tahko, is a strong Finnish tourist center, both during winters and summers. It is situated in a small town named
Nilsiä , about 70 kilometers from the city ofKuopio , which is the leading city of Eastern and MiddleFinland .The success of Tahko is a consequence of both good situation and a rapid and forceful development and diversifying of activities. Tahko is called a small tourist town with its many restaurants and possibilities to train different interests. It has some of the best winter sports facilities in Finland. Snowmobile enthusiasts also appreciate the marked routes covering hundreds of kilometers in Nilsiä and Northeast
Savonia .In summer there are numerous marked paths for hiking and mountain biking. Nilsiä has a well-equipped marina and there is excellent fishing in lakes Syväri and
Vuotjärvi , renowned for their stock of fish, and in theLastukoski rapids.There are also a wide range of sports services and special clubs for people of many different ages. A modern sports field, a full-length golf course, sports hall, tennis courts and other sports premises offer excellent possibilities for both training and fun.
In the neighborhood there is an old place for
strip mining . Today this is used for opera performances.The idea of artificially increasing the height of Tahkovuori has awoken much debate in Finland.
