USS "Assail" (AM-147) was an built for the
U.S. Navy duringWorld War II . She was built to clear minefields in offshore waters, and was given to theSoviets under theLend-lease program.She was laid down on
1 November 1942 atTampa, Florida , by theTampa Shipbuilding Co.; launched on27 December 1942 ; sponsored by Miss M. T. Hicks; and completed on5 October 1943 .Transfer to the Soviet Union
She was transferred to the
Soviet Union on the day she was completed under thelend-lease program, and she served theSoviet Navy as T-120 until she wastorpedo ed and sunk24 September 1944 in theKara Sea by the Germansubmarine U-739.Disposition
Never returned, "Assail" was carried on the American Navy List as MSF-147 after
7 February 1955 until struck on1 January 1983 .References
