Brett was born in the San Fernando Valley, and attended
Stanford University , graduating in 2004. While there, Brett co-founded theStanford Shakespeare Society , a student-run company devoted to the production and performance of Shakespearean and Shakespeare-influenced drama.Brett also lent voice talent as John Edwards and Dennis Kucinich in the First Dem Debate episode of
SuperNews! .Brett's cousin is
Bill Lee (left-handed pitcher) .On camera, Brett once famously bet all of his comedic writing ability on a game of Guitar Hero 2 (PS2) to a coworker (the song was "Carry On Wayward Son", as made famous by Kansas). After he lost, he destroyed the tape and claimed the bet was a "practice" that "didn't even count". He now denies it ever happened.
