Renaat Bosschaert

Renaat Bosschaert (1938-2007) was a Belgian artist working in painting, graphic arts, sculpture, ceramic arts, engraving and printmaking. He is noted for his small-run, large-format art folios, which feature his engravings, woodcuts and typography. [http://www.standaard.be/Artikel/Detail.aspx?artikelId=G2816EBQU] These were pulled by hand on antique printing presses in his studio in Bruges. He published illustrated limited editions of works by historic Belgian authors Guido Gezelle and Felix Timmermans and produced a series of work with local and contemporary writers such as Anton van Wilderode. His works are in the collections of the Royal Library of Belgium and the university libraries of Brussels and Antwerp.

Bosschaert was born on November 18, 1938 in Ostend, Belgium. He studied at the Bruges "Stedelijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten" (Academy for Fine Arts).
