particle physics , the X and Y bosons are hypotheticalelementary particle s analogous to theW and Z bosons , but corresponding to a new type of force, such as the forces predicted bygrand unified theory .The properties of the bosons vary according to the grand unification theory in which they are predicted. In most such theories, the X and Y bosons couple
quark s tolepton s, allowing violation of the conservation ofbaryon number and thusproton decay .An X boson would have the following
decay mode s:: SubatomicParticle|X Boson → SubatomicParticle|Antiquark + SubatomicParticle|Antilepton: SubatomicParticle|X Boson → SubatomicParticle|Quark + SubatomicParticle|QuarkWhere q is aquark and l is alepton . In these reactions, neither thelepton number nor thebaryon number is conserved, butB−L is. Differentbranching ratio s between the X boson and its antiparticle (as is the case with theK-meson ) would explainbaryogenesis .ee also
