London Buses route 383 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, United Kingdom. The service is currently contracted to Metroline.

History

The route 383, first operated by Metroline, was originally operated between Barnet and Potters Bar from 1998 to create a replacement for the 326 service which was cut back to Barnet. The route was later extended to the residential development in Oakleigh Park via New Barnet. It was later further extended, via Torrington Park, to Woodside Park station which previously no bus routes had served. By 2003 the service between Potters Bar and Barnet was suspended due to a lack of passengers and a new contract was awarded to Sullivan Buses to run the shortened route on July 2003. This was the first London bus route for Sullivan Buses. [ [http://www.londonbusroutes.net/photos/383.htm Route 383 ] ]
Sullivan Buses were awarded a new 5 year contract to operate the route on 2 January 2007. [ [http://www.earthfish.co.uk/html/latestold.html Sullivan Buses - Archived News ] ]

The service originally used buses from Dennis Dart. They were later replaced by Dennis Dart SLF/Caetano Nimbus in order to increase capacity and allow for low floor disabled access. These buses are also fitted with devices to open the barriers near Oakleigh Park station where there is a width restriction.
