Simcoe County Road 4, or locally known as Yonge Street (pronounced as "Young") and Barrie Street, is a major north-south county arterial route linking the Town of Bradford-West Gwillimbury and the City of Barrie in Southern Ontario, Canada. The road is commonly known as the extension of Yonge Street, which was formerly claimed as the longest street in the world, starting from Toronto all the way up north-west to Rainy River before entering the Minnesota - Ontario border.

Most of the route is known as Yonge Street, except for the portion in Bradford, where it is known as Barrie Street (not to be confused with the Barrie Street running on Simcoe County Road 27.)

Despite Barrie Street continues southward beyond 8th Line, and eventually, merges with Simcoe County Road 88 (Formerly Highway 88). Along that route, it runs south-easterly, and meets up with Holland River, which is the York Region - Simcoe County's border, and continue south as York Regional Road 1.

North of Newmarket, Yonge Street break from the baseline and head northwest along the Holland Landing bypass. which was constructed in 1959 into Bradford. At the Holland River, Yonge Street changes its name to Bridge Street then changes its name to Holland Street a few blocks later. To follow Simcoe County Road 4, one must turn right onto Barrie Street and drive out of Bradford where the Yonge Street name is picked up again.

History

Simcoe County Road 4 was originally used as a military trail in 1824, when John Graves Simcoe decided to extend Yonge Street from Holland River to Kempenfeldt Bay in present-day Barrie. Founded by John Graves Simcoe, Simcoe County Road 4 was part of the Yonge Street (named after Sir George Yonge) which connected Toronto and the Northern Great Lakes.

North of Barrie, parts of the "Old Yonge Street" still exists as Penetanguishene Road, Simcoe County Road 93 or Highway 93.
