Pennsylvania . Goode Jr., the son of former Philadelphia MayorW. Wilson Goode , was born on August 9, 1965. Goode Jr. graduated from Central High School and theUniversity of Pennsylvania .After working on Wall Street and Capitol Hill, Goode Jr. lost his nomination bid for councilman at large in the
1991 Democraticprimary election , but was appointed by MayorEdward G. Rendell to an economic development position in1992 .Goode Jr. was elected City Councilman At-Large in
1999 , with the political support of Democratic mayoral nomineeJohn F. Street . Goode, Jr. handily won re-election as City Councilman At-Large in2003 .Goode Jr. received more votes in
African-American wards than any other council-at-large candidate and was considered a possible 2007 Democratic mayoral candidate at the start of his second council term, but he did not enter the race. Instead, Goode Jr. was re-elected to serve for a third term on City Council, again receiving more votes than any other council candidate in African-American wards. In fact, Goode Jr. placed first in 37 of the 66 wards in the November 2007 municipal general election.Councilman Goode serves as Chairman of Philadelphia City Council's Committee on Commerce and Economic Development and was the recipient of a National Achievement Award from the National Community Reinvestment Coalition in 2006.
