LITA American Library Association

LITA American Library Association

The Library and Information Technology Association (LITA) is a division of the American Library Association, which is the oldest library association in the world.

LITA became a division of ALA in 1966 in response to the changing technological environment in libraries. Originally called the Information Science and Automation Division, the name was changed in 1978 to the Library and Information Technology Association. LITA is headquartered in the Chicago ALA offices. Mary Taylor is the current LITA executive director (CEO).

LITA Conference Programming

LITA-sponsored sessions are a part of the annual and mid-winter meetings of the American Library Association. In addition, LITA sponsors the LITA National Forum which provides technology-focused programming in a small conference setting. First held in 1998, the LITA National Forum has become a highly regarded annual event for those whose work involves new and leading edge technologies in the library and information technology field.
