footnotes =Luise Meyer-Schützmeister (1915 in
Germany – 1981) was a senior physicist at theArgonne National Laboratory and she aided in the measurement of gamma rays produced in nuclear reactions and also conducted studies on the behavior of nuclei. She received her Ph.D at theTechnical University of Berlin during WW2 and in the 1950s she and her husband Peter Meyer, also a physicist, emigrated to the United States where she became a research associate for the Institute for Nuclear studies at theUniversity of Chicago , in 1956 she became an associate scientist at the Argonne National Laboratory and in 1973 became a senior scientist there until her death in 1981.The Luise Meyer-Schutzmeister Award is named after her and was created by the associate for women in science for woman graduate students in physics.
