Pollokshields Library

Pollokshields Library

Pollokshields Library situates in central Pollokshields and hosts an array of books, mainly for children, and adults alike. It is located near Kenmure street. The plans were prepared by Thomas Gilmour under the supervsion of City Engineer & Surveyor, Alexander B. McDonald. The library was officially opened on 20 February 1907 by Sir John Stirling Maxwell.

As, for a long time, the town has been occupied by New Scots fromally known as British Asians. The main ethnic groups affilitated within this area are Sri Lankan, Pakistani and Indians who are the residents here. There are numerous books that one can dredge up to read in another language, such as Urdu, Punjabi and Arabic which are held in the novel sections located at the west side entrance of the building. This makes it ideal for those who can't speak English - mainly the elderly or the generation beforehand.
