- Eburovices
The Eburovices, or Eburovici, were a
Gallic tribe, a branch of theAulerci . They are mentioned byJulius Caesar ("B. G." iii. 17) with theLexovii . Pliny ("H.N." xv. 18) speaks of the Aulerci, "qui cognominantur Eburovices, et quiCenomani ."Ptolemy (ii. 8) makes the polytonic|Αὐλέρκοι Ἐβουραϊκοί extend from the Ligeris (modernLoire ) to the Sequana (modernSeine ), which is not true. Their chief place was "Mediolanum Aulercorum" (modernÉvreux , inNormandy ). Their limits correspond to those of the laterdiocese of Évreux , and they are north of theCarnutes .References
