George Lyall

George Lyall

George Lyall (1779 - September 1 1853) was Chairman of the Honourable East India Company in 1830. He had a range of other business interests involving shipping. He served as MP for the City of London 1833 to 1835 and again in 1841 to 1847. He was born at Newcastle-on-Tyne in Durham, the eldest son of John Lyall and Jane Comyns. He died at London, Middlesex.

His daughter Mary married William Forsyth QC. One of his famous nephews was Alfred Comyn Lyall, the Indian civil servant (1835 - 1911).
