urgeon general
As documented in testimony before Congress on July 10, 2007,
Richard H. Carmona , U.S. surgeon general from 2002 to 2006, testified to the extent of the politicization of his position by the Bush administration, and spoke of how references tostem-cell research were struck from his speeches, he was directed to mention the George W. Bush's name three times on every page of a speech, and he was not allowed to mention theSpecial Olympics , because it was a favorite charity of the democraticKennedy family .Lawrimore's response was to say, "It’s disappointing to us if he failed to use this position to the fullest extent in advocating for policies he thought were in the best interests of the nation."
