Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board

Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board

The Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (PCJPB) is a government entity which manages the Caltrain commuter rail line that runs down California's San Francisco Peninsula and Santa Clara Valley. The AAR reporting mark for PCJPB is JPBX.

The PCJPB was formed in 1987 to oversee the Caltrain service, and in July 1992 assumed the total operating and funding responsibilities for running Caltrain, taking over from Caltrans. The Caltrain right of way between the San Francisco 4th & King station and the San Jose Tamien station is titled to PCJPB, which was bought from Southern Pacific in December 1991 with funds and loans from Caltrans. Southern Pacific continued to maintain trackage rights over the line, which were transferred over to Union Pacific when SP and UP merged. To this day, UP still maintains trackage rights and occasionally would be seen operating freight over the line when needed to its customers in the Peninsula.

The PCJPB consists of three member agencies from the three counties in which Caltrain line serves, each member agency sends three representatives to constitute a nine member Board of Directors. The member agencies are:
* The City and County of San Francisco
* San Mateo County - San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans)
* Santa Clara County - Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA)
