Meatbee (usually written "MEATBEE") is a rock band from Canberra, Australia, formed in 2000. Their line up includes Kate Sullivan (vocals/rhythm guitar), Ben Lopez (lead guitar), and Charlie Bigg-Wither (drums). They have also been described as an indie pop group, but the band describes its style as "bluesy", "guitar driven rock".

Meatbee have also been featured on the annual compilation album "Caught in the ACT", which features local artists from the Australian Capital Territory, every year from 2001 to 2006. They have also been featured on Triple J's Unearthed programme. Though they have been popular in the live music scene in Canberra for many years, they reached widespread notice both within Australia and on the Internet in 2007, mostly due to their efforts to have their version of the "Transformers" cartoon theme song included on the soundtrack of the "Transformers" film.

Transformers theme

In 2004 Meatbee performed an acoustic cover of the "Transformers" cartoon theme song for 104.7FM in 2004. The cover was replayed by JJJ and gained popularity online after Meatbee offered it for download from their web site; it was used in several fan trailers for the Transformers film. It was released on their second, self-titled EP.

In 2007, when the band learned of Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg's upcoming "Transformers" movie, Meatbee submitted the original acoustic track to a music producer for the film. Reportedly it was heard and liked by Steven Spielberg, but the film producers wanted something more "hard rock". The band thus recorded a new studio version in April 2007 and submitted that, hoping to get on to the soundtrack; however, as rights for the soundtrack had already been awarded to Warner Music USA, the track was not used. The band produced a music video, released online, and released the track as a single in June 2007, to coincide with the Australian release of the film.
