Chandler Grafner

Chandler Norris was a seven-year-old male child from the Denver area. It has been alleged that he was beaten and eventually starved to death on May 6, 2007 by his legal guardians and foster parents, Jon Phillips and his girlfriend Sarah Berry. Phillips was 27 when he was charged with the child's murder; Ms. Berry was 21 when she was charged.

According to news reports, young Grafner was placed in a closet at his home and was not fed until he died from "restricted access to fluids and caloric intake."

There were many reports filed with two separate county's Department of Human Resources locations about possible child abuse. Despite these reports and other warning signs of abuse, young Grafner was allowed to stay with his guardians. This oversight by government authorities is alleged to be the ultimate death of the child.

Another report describes abuse of Chandler and said he had a "bruised and swollen right ear" and a "mark on his neck."

At the time of the boy's death, the coroner's report indicated that he weighed only 34 lbs.

The child's full name was Chandler Ashton Norris which is the legal name on his birth certificate. When he was born he weighed 3lbs 4ozs. His biological mother was Christina Grafner and his biological father was Joshua Norris.

On August 11, 2008, Sarah Berry pleaded guilty to Murder in the Second Degree in relation to the death of Chandler Grafner. Earlier that same day, following two weeks of testimony, a jury had begun deliberating in the trial of Jon Phillips. The next morning, on August 12, 2008, that jury found Jon Phillips guilty of all counts: Murder in the First Degree, Child Abuse Resulting in Death, and Tampering with Evidence. Phillips was sentenced immediately to life in prison plus forty nine years, without the possibility of parole.
