Uxbridge is a town in Uxbridge Township.
History
The Village of Uxbridge was incorporated in
1872 . Previously, it had been part of the former Township of Uxbridge. Soon after incorporation, the Village Council voted to subsidise theToronto and Nipissing Railway for the construction of headquarters, engine and repair shops in the Village. The railway lead to rapid growth and Uxbridge was incorporated as a Town in1885 . At that time, the municipality had a population of 2,200. The railway was later incorporated into theGrand Trunk Railway system and the headquarters were moved to Lindsay.Early industries included the Uxbridge Piano and Organ Company and the Gold Medal Radio and Phonograph Company. Both factories were destroyed by fire.
In
1974 , the Town was amalgamated with Uxbridge Township and Scott Township to form a newly expanded Township of Uxbridge. The television mini-series "By Way of the Stars" was filmed here in 1992. It aired on theDisney Channel in America.References
