- Iodoacetate
The iodoacetate anion is an
alkylating agent which acts oncysteine residues in proteins. It is often used to modify SH-groups to prevent the re-formation ofdisulfide bond s after the reduction ofcystine residues to cysteine duringprotein sequencing. The protonated form of iodoacetate is often called "monoiodoacetic acid" or simply "iodoacetic acid."
