Gholamreza Nikpey

Gholam-Reza Nikpay, also Nikpay ( - Tehran , April 11 , 1979), P.H.D. from London School of Economics, was deputy prime minister of Iran and Mayor of Tehran, Iran, during the prime ministership of Amir Abbas Hoveyda. He was a descendant of Qajar dynasty.

He was executed on 11 April, 1979 on the orders of a revolutionary tribunal, without legal representation or it appears a chance to defend himself. His execution appears to have been politically motivated. Dr. Nikpay is one of the victims listed in the March 13, 1980 Amnesty International report. International human rights organizations have drawn attention to reports indicating that the Islamic Republic’s authorities executed individuals on trumped up charges.
