Farkhad Akhmedov "Russian" (Фархад Ахмедов) (b.
September 15 ,1955 ) is a Russian businessman, and senator with interests in the oil, food and gas industries. A schoolboy when his father, the director of a plant inBaku, Azerbaijan was sentenced to death for state-property embezzlement. Fled toMoscow , studied to be a mechanic; spent several years in the navy; graduated from the Moscow Veterinary Academy's Commodity Research & Animal Commodities department as specialist in fur. Eventually began selling machinery to oil and gas companies and later moved into production himself. Starting in 1993 built up shares inNortgas , which has a field in theArctic Circle , from 5% to nearly 100% by 2001, largely by diluting partnerGazprom 's stake. In 2005, threatened with the loss of his license, agreed to give Gazprom its shares back. Today owns half the company.External links
