The X-Presidents

The X-Presidents

The X-Presidents is a Saturday Night Live TV Funhouse cartoon that features former American Presidents Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, and George Herbert Walker Bush as a superhero team. [http://archives.cnn.com/2000/SHOWBIZ/TV/12/27/smigel/index.html] This recurring sketch debuted on January 11, 1997. [http://snl.jt.org/toon.php?i=137] The four former leaders were endowed with superpowers when struck by lightning at a celebrity golf tournament.

Richard Nixon, along with his dog Checkers returned from the dead on one occasion to aid the group. Ford and Reagan have become "Ex-X-Presidents" since their deaths. President Bill Clinton attempted to join the group after leaving office but was hindered by his lack of superpowers. The cartoons end with the X-Presidents singing a song that recounts the episode's message. The sketch broadly parodies Hanna-Barbera cartoons from the 1970s.

Comic adaptation

The cartoon short was adapted to a comic book by Random House Comics. [http://www.comiccollectorlive.com/LiveData/Issue.aspx?id=fe06ae7b-2716-4934-a1d3-8c61709cadbc]
