Holmes is also in charge of maintaining series continuity and making sure that there's a consistent "voice" across the books. [Vicky writes all of the snailmail letters and is at all of the tours as Erin Hunter. She always writes in purple pen (as discovered in an interview wih her before the Toronto spring '08 tour).
