"Our Day Out" is a play written by Willy Russel in 1977. [cite book|last=Russell|first=Willy|authorlink=Willy Russell|title=Our Day Out|publisher=Heinemann Educational Publishers|date=1993|location=United Kingdom|pages=ix|isbn=0-435-23301-7] It was written for a film which was broadcasted by the BBC, and was later adapted into a musical.

Synopsis

The play is about students from an inner-city school in Liverpool who go on a trip to Conway Castle in Wales. Mrs Kay teaches a class of illiterate pupils, called the "Progress Class". At the last minute, the disciplinarian Deputy Headteacher, Mr Briggs, also joins.

Plot

Although originally planned as a trip to the castle, the class also ends up going to the zoo, the beach and the fair.
