Townsend Press

Townsend Press

Townsend Press is a publishing company based in New Jersey, USA. They began in the 1980s by publishing reading and writing books for college students who needed to improve their skills to succeed in college. The company's founder, John Langan, taught at a community college. He felt that the materials that were on the market at the time which were designed for developmental college students could be better. In recent years, the company has created a young adult novel series called The Bluford series. These novles are designed for students in 7 through 12th grade. The topics and writing style are meant to engage reluctant readers. The stories all take place at the fictional Bluford High School. It is an urban high school and the majority of the characters in the series are African American.
