Overview

A member of the Philippine local electronic music scene for 6 years, Madz Abubakar has played a major role in shaping the local electronic dance scene. Madz alongside known pioneering Philippine (colloquially a.k.a "pinoy") electronic artists such as Wolfmann, Rubber Inc, Drip, Silverfilter, Brian Cua, Morse, Squid9 and Juno Award Nominee & CMW Award Winner Sekoya aim to educate young Filipinos on the booming culture of electronica. Known to influence Pinoy Electronic Music scene, they put electronica as a convergence of all musical genres, from classical to rock, from hip hop to dub. Showing that Filipinos are capable of producing their own flavor of the popular dance scene.

His musical ingenuity was stimulated in 2001 out of soul searching in Chicago. It was where he was first introduced to the musical software Fruity Loops. Musically influenced by Global Underground and Hooj Records, he began creating his own blend of music. Coming home to Manila placed him in the path of the Pinoy electronic music scene through Electronica Manila's "EM Live" events where he played side by side with other live electronica artists.

In 2003, He was credited for the soundtrack of Game Channel, the first interactive mobile arcade game show in the Philippines. On the same year, Madz Abubakar released a limited edition smooth headphone candy EP entitled "Breakfast Loops" on CD-R, under the artist name Neon8, which was later re-released digitally via the QED Records netlabel in 2006. By 2004, he became a finalist in the Ministry of Sound, BEDJ Mixmaster Competition in the Philippines. By 2005,with blessings of one of Manila's Electronica Pioneer Malek Lopez and Sweetspot’s Mark Laccay, undertook a greater challenge by collaborating with Nyko Maca. Producing, remixing and DJing "live" electro samba or popularly known as drum n’ bossa for Nyko Maca + Playground is one of his current projects. Nyko Maca + Playground is also composed of Nicole Severino, Rick Sanchez, Juno Award Nominee & CMW Award Winner -Alvin Cornista of Sekoya.
