It was recorded eight years after their last studio album, "Blue Cave", and released six years after the band had officially split in January 1988.

Their Australian single from the album, "Nothing's Changing My Life" was released a month earlier, while the U.S. single "When You Get to California" was released in April. The album's title is a reference to the German phrase, "make show", which The Beatles were told to do on each night's performance during their stay in Hamburg, Germany.
