"Far Cry" was the infamous unfinished recording that was put on the final track listing of singer Marvin Gaye's final Motown album, "In Our Lifetime", in 1981. The song featured a vocally conscious Gaye mouthing off words while playing multi instruments including the drums and keyboards on one part of the song, which was essentially a funk-styled instrumental and on the second brief half a jazz instrumental with Gaye playing piano and drums while his fellow instrumentalists, bassist Frank Blair and guitarist Gordon Banks backed him up while he's singing in falsetto. The song's release amongst the eight original recordings that made the final release of "In Our Lifetime" angered Marvin to the point where he severed ties with the company that had been his home for twenty years leaving the label for Columbia. The song would later be sampled for a song by rappers U-God and Snoop Dogg, who sampled parts of Gaye's vocals from the song for the single "Dance With Me" from one of his mixtapes in 2004. In the re-release of "In Our Lifetime", there was a six-minutes long version that included more of the jazz segue of the song, which was cut off from the album's initial release.
